Our Vision
“Having access to nutritious food is a basic human need.”
- National Institutes of Health
We strive for a wonderful world, in which children have this basic human need met.
Why are we the Wunderfull lab?
The Wu Lab conducts nutrition research dedicated to helping children reach their full health. Our purpose is to disentangle the disparities in childhood nutrition and obesity and lead impactful nutrition equity research to help children and their families reach optimal and full health.
My clinical and research interests in pediatric nutrition have been shaped by my childhood surrounded by food and science. In the 1980s, after emigrating from Taiwan to the U.S., my grandparents opened a Chinese food kiosk in a mall food court. My relatives proceeded to open and operate Chinese restaurants, while my parents obtained Ph.Ds. in biochemistry and became academic research scientists. My grandparents recognized that food was nourishing for their customers, while my parents encouraged scientific curiosity. This upbringing, followed by medical training, has influenced my research interest in harnessing nutrition interventions in the health care setting to prevent and treat childhood diseases.
